Lift Boat Sinks Off Coast of Louisiana

Rescue teams are still working to locate 12 people who were onboard a lift boat when it capsized earlier this week. Six people have been rescued. The lift boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico near Port Fourchon, Louisiana. Severe storms in the area are likely the cause of the capsize.

The lift boat was carrying a total of 18 people. These vessels are self-propelled with open decks. They support construction, drilling and exploration efforts offshore, both in shallow and deep water.

Rescuers with the U.S. Coast Guard and several civilian vessels continue to search for the crew members, who are “missing” at this time.
